oily painty
Been working on some stuff I left when I went to the Dominican Republic. I've been simplifying and painting everything in oil instead of acrylics. I think they work way better this way, but it was a tough kill-your-darlings project to do. They're still not finished, but I'm getting there.
1ST EXHIBITION
Had my first exhibition last saturday!
It's curated by Belaj Kru, and it's at KPH: PROJECTS.
I didn't take any photos of the opening but they exist some where out there. It turned into a very fashionable party with drum&bass dj's and that sorts. The paintings will stay put for a month - they're hanging in a room used for parties and conferences (the not-so-boring artsy culture activism, project design and ngo things). .. The benches are not meant to be there btw - They were cleaning up for something that was to take place in the evening.
Lesson #224:
The pig to the left has some chips because it kept falling down. My own fault, I had used the backside as a mixing palette, and I hadn't used enough glue. Yappediyap.

Sculptures
So.. These days are pretty artsy, most of my time has been consumed by art stuff which means no time for kite surfing. It's getting cold very fast, I definitely need to get out on the water a couple of times before it's too late. The wind is howling at the moment.
Besides from that it has been some awesome experiences messing around with sculpture on both schools. At VERA we had a 2 week workshop with artists Maiken Bent and Torben Ribe (www.torbenribe.dk/ and www.maikenbent.dk/). The workshop had to do with ready-made objects and presentation. We had to focus on aesthetics and not do our usual routine which I definitely found useful. It was liberating not having to make art that tried to mean anything, but rather just try out new things and experiment. The final product I ended up with (a no title) was rather dull but it was an exciting process, especially due to some profound disagreements about that what-is-art-to-you-then discussion.
At ARKEN BGK we had a workshop with artist Veo Friis Jespersen. It was about sculptures, she showed us her work and explained about her ideas and then we were to make a sculpture of our own, with her body of work as starting point. Once again it was very different from anything that I've made before and I really felt that I learned something from it. To be fair there was a lot playing around with the materials kindergarten style, which we were kind of encouraged to do so it was all good, definitely very liberating. The assignment was to make a sculpture that deals with a paradox in the choice of materials - light/heavy, readymade/handmade etcetera (at least that's what I thought was the assignment) .
The final products were pretty cool, it is definitely some talented fellow students.
My final sculpture. The brown stuff is PU foam with enamel coating.
This is a blind end work recess something, but I had to upload it as well. Check out the amazing floor and huge doors ! . Pretty as. It's at Arken.
A couple of the other students works. I'm amazed.
Being at the two schools at the same time is pretty cool, they are complementing each other very well, I feel privileged. For example, I would never have brought a ready-made to Arken if it was'nt because we were working with ready-made objects at Vera.
Next week I leave for Rome for a week. Got some free tickets from La Familia. Effing great!
It's at the same time as a one night study-trip to London with Vera,
you win some you lose some.
I still have a huge headache, probably from the scar tissue on my brain. I'm kinda self-medicating with pain killers every day, but they're really helping.

Vivian Maier - A link to another blog.
Vivian Maier was a street photographer from the 1950s - 1990s. Vivian's work was discovered at an auction in Chicago where she resided most of her life. Her discovered work includes about 100,000 mostly medium format negatives and a ton of undeveloped rolls of film. Born February 1, 1926 and deceased on Tuesday, April 21, 2009.
